The main character in the novel is White Mike, he is thin and has a white skin. He is really pale and has blond hair. He got much money, so he can wear Brooks Brothers clothes.
He lives in New York and takes a year off before going to college.One of his favourite films is “American Beauty ”, so he wanted to do it the same way like the person in the film, he started to sell drugs and earn much money with this.
He is a dealer who has never taken drugs or drunk alcohol and so on before.
The novel starts two days after Christmas but White Mike is selling drugs since summer.
This time he earns much money, because the kids got money at Christmas which they can “throw away”. He didn't know what he is selling. So he made a experiment with himself in the summer, he stayed awake for 3 days without sleeping until he collapsed in his bed. At this time he made some really crazy things like running around and barking and howling at kids. And also when he was at Down Park Avenue he remembers his dead mother. He remembers a situation where his mother was told him about the Chaos Theory. She tried to make him understand with an example: The butterfly who changes the whole world.
And then his beeper gets him in the real-life back.
